Persia: c.1899 . 0. Two original leather boards with hand-painted decoration to both sides. 29.2cm x 19.5cm. Both boards with early varnish which has darkend the images, A few small chips and very rubbed corners to boards. ** "Ornate book bindings and cover art have been central to the manuscript and bookmaking traditions in the Persian-speaking world in the last millennium. Although some regional characteristics are unique, most of the designs are shared throughout the Islamic world. This elaborate cover with flowers is typical of Persian lacquer book bindings from the Qajar period (1785–1925).." - See A Thousand Years of the Persian Book Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century Literature, Library of Congress.

Large Victorian Book Box.
[ J. C. Woodhill - C. 1900 ] . 0. A very good full leather book box. 11.5" x 8.25" x 5.0" . Brown morocco binding. Gilt name to top cover: "J. C. Woodhill". Hinged top lid, and drop-down front flap. Brown velvet lined interior. Internal dimensions: 10.5" x 7.0" x 4.0" . ** Family history record a; Josiah Cox Woodhill (1800-1881 ). When Josiah Cox Woodhill was born on 12 January 1801, his father, John, was 36 and his mother, Ann, was 32. He married Sophia Hana Fowler and they had one daughter together. He also had one daughter with J. Caroline Field. He died on 27 December 1881 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, having lived a long life of 80 years. His main residence was Pakenham House, Edgbaston. Mr. Woodhill was a jeweller of high character, an elder of a baptist church, and a man of some literary taste.

Clean text throughout + 5 tinted plates (all with light foxing to page edges). "Chatto & Windus's List Of Books." (pp.32), dated 'October 1884.' A well preserved copy of this scarce book.

Two 19th Century Half Penny Post Cards with postmarks for Sudbury and Lowestoft .
Long Melford: C. J. N. Row, 1879 . 0. In 1867 a station-master's pay was so small that Mr. C. J. N. Row had to supplement his income by selling accident insurance to his railway passengers. In the ensuing years the firm developed many more agencies and eventually became C. J. N. Row & Sons when the founder took his son into the business. Throughout the first part of the last century the company prospered, building an enviable reputation for courteous and practical insurance advice within the Suffolk farming community.
